Empowered Birth and Beyond: Advocating for Your Autonomy

Mini Course

If you resonate with any of these feelings…

✅ You’re yearning for an empowering birth experience but find yourself questioning whether it’s truly possible. You’ve heard stories of women feeling powerless and overwhelmed, and a part of you fears that this could be your story too. You’re seeking a path that leads to a birth experience where you feel strong, informed, and in control—where you’re not just a passive participant, but the author of your own birth story.

✅ You’re searching for the confidence to advocate for the birth that YOU want, yet deep down, you worry about being dismissed, judged, or pressured by your healthcare providers, family, or even friends. The thought of speaking up and holding firm in your decisions makes your heart race because you know how critical it is, but the fear of confrontation or making the ‘wrong’ choice looms large. You want to break free from that fear, to step into a space where your voice is heard, respected, and acted upon.

✅ You’re desperate to escape the crushing feelings of guilt and shame that creep in when you think about asserting your right to personal autonomy. Society has taught you to put others first, to be a ‘good patient,’ to not rock the boat—and yet, these expectations leave you feeling trapped, questioning whether you have the right to make your own decisions about your body and your birth. You long to release these burdens, to walk confidently in the knowledge that your choices are valid and worthy, without second-guessing yourself.

✅ You’re ready to take full responsibility for YOUR birth and your choices, but you fear the weight of that responsibility, the possibility of being blamed if things don’t go as planned. It’s a heavy load to carry alone, and the fear of judgment or regret can feel paralyzing. Yet, you also know that there is power in ownership—in making informed choices and standing by them. You want to embrace that power, to be the one steering the ship, no matter what the journey brings.

✅ You want to exude unshakable confidence when discussing your pregnancy, birth, and parenting choices with your provider, family, and friends, but you worry about being misunderstood, criticized, or dismissed. The idea of defending your decisions, especially when they go against the grain, can be intimidating. You’re seeking not just the tools to make informed choices, but the inner strength to stand tall in those choices, to communicate with clarity and calm, knowing that you are doing what is best for you and your baby.

About Me

Hi, I’m Naomi and I’m a mother, wife, birthworker, educator, autonomous birth advocate, postpartum doula, and a qualifying trauma-informed somatic perinatal coach. My journey into this work is deeply personal, rooted in my own experiences and a profound passion for supporting women in their most vulnerable moments.

My Journey

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a mom. I had envisioned a peaceful home birth for my son, surrounded by love and the comfort of my own space. But life had other plans. At 29 weeks, my world was turned upside down when I went into labor prematurely and found myself facing an emergency C-section. What followed was a whirlwind of emotions that left me in the trenches of postpartum, feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and burdened by a hefty amount of birth trauma.

It was through this difficult experience that I realized just how many women—up to 45%, though I believe the number is even higher—endure birth trauma. More importantly, I discovered that the key to my healing was finding my voice and sharing my story. Every conversation with family, friends, other moms, and even my therapist brought me closer to peace. Yet, despite the support I received, there was something missing—a safe space where I could be truly seen and heard by someone who deeply understood the nuances of physiological birth and the often overlooked challenges of medicalized birth.

My Mission

My Mission

This realization is what drives me today. I am committed to providing that safe, judgment-free space for women to debrief their birth experiences. I believe in the power of storytelling as a tool for healing and empowerment. My mission is to hold space and empower women through education, healing, and compassionate postpartum support whether they experienced a physiological birth, a medicalized birth, or something in between.

Why I m Different

What sets me apart is my holistic understanding of birth from all perspectives—physiological, medicalized, and autonomous. I support all forms of birth, including freebirth, and I hold space for women in a way that honors their unique experiences without judgment. My approach is trauma-informed and centered on helping women find their voice, process their experiences, and ultimately, take back their power.

What is Birth Trauma?

Birth trauma refers to the physical and/or psychological distress experienced during childbirth. It can result from a variety of factors, including unexpected complications, medical interventions, loss of control or autonomy, perceived or actual lack of support, or a traumatic event occurring during labor or delivery. Birth trauma can manifest differently for each person, but it often involves feelings of fear, helplessness, or a sense of being violated. It is important to note that birth trauma is not limited to individuals who have experienced a medically complicated birth; even individuals with relatively straightforward births can still experience trauma.

Types of Birth Trauma

Physical Trauma

Physical birth trauma refers to injuries or harm experienced by the birthing person or the baby during the process of labor and delivery. This can include lacerations, perineal tears, fractures, nerve damage, or other physical injuries. Physical trauma can sometimes require medical intervention, such as sutures or surgical repair.

Psychological Trauma

Psychological birth trauma includes the emotional and psychological impact of the birth experience. It encompasses feelings of fear, helplessness, loss of control, or a sense of violation. Psychological trauma can lead to symptoms such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, or difficulty bonding with the baby.

What is a Birth Debrief?

A birth debrief is a process that involves providing emotional support, information, and a safe space for individuals or couples to reflect on and discuss their birth experience. The purpose of a birth debrief is to help process feelings, gain clarity, and find healing or closure, if needed. Birth debriefs can be conducted by birth professionals such as doulas, midwives, or therapists who specialize in perinatal care. It could mean an informal chat or an in depth review of your medical notes and/or experiences.
